Housing for the aged Program

A tour around most village areas of Kayunga District will quickly show you that most housing is in a dangerous state of disrepair or is not built safely in the first place. Please check out our photo gallery and see for yourself.
At 61%, a majority of our survey respondents were above 40 years old. By rural Ugandan standards, this is considered aged. BUVAD has long-term plans for home and toilet renovation. We are currently researching the feasibility of building structures using plastic bottles. BUVAD plans to begin by utilizing this technique in the construction of toilets and hopes that this idea is accepted and catches on in the community.
BUVAD is currently searching for short or long-term volunteers that are interested in renovation/building projects. If you have specific skills in plastic bottle construction, this is a great opportunity to introduce a brand new practice using green technology to a community that is unfamiliar with the idea. Please see our volunteer page for more details.
